Soooooo,
A lot has happened over the last few months. I graduated (yh yh I am a LLB holder), moved back to Nigeria, passed the first stage of the Nigerian Law school and now studying hard for the Bar 2 program.
So where do I start from?
The last time I checked in here, I shared with y'all about my experience at the Nigerian High Commission in London and yea that was the beginning of so many events to come.
Months after I got my new passport I moved back to Nigeria. I was really looking forward to moving back as I had not been in Naija in a long time.
I was super excited. I got off the plane at about 4:30am or thereabout I couldn't wait to see my mum. I had been restless all through the flight. I just wanted my big bear hug.
The airport was a big disappointment (I was gobsmacked when I got off the plane...lol...initial gragra) I mean it wasn't like a conventional airport, it had leaking roofs, musty rooms, water on the floor, unprofessional staff, it was just a mess. However, the last time I checked, the airport and its environ looked fairly okay but can be better.
As soon as I was done with immigration and their unnecessary wahala I got out and boom my mum was waiting to receive me.
Everything seemed alive, maybe it was the dusty roadsides, rusty roofs, bumper to bumper traffic, everything just seemed engaging.
Lagos cracks me up tho....like the whole lasgidi living is jokes. As early as 6:00am traffic had built up from Ikeja going towards 3rd mainland bridge. For over an hour we were stuck in traffic and we did bumper to bumper till we got to Ikoyi Falomo. Although I was knackered, I couldn't sleep I was so fascinated at how Lagos had changed I also couldn't stop chatting with my mum.
Sooooo,
After a week in Naija, mehn I snapped back to reality. Enough of throwing a wobbly at every instance. I instinctively dropped all the I just got back attitude. Who I just got back don EPP? lol.
For anyone planning to move back or spend their holiday in Naija my top three things you should know or do are:
- Drop it at the Airport. Ask whoever that came to drop you off at Heathrow or Gatwick to take it back with them. Don't bring that excess baggage of pride or IJGB attitude. You don't need them. Accent and bad attitude will not get you anywhere.
- Have an open mind. Naija is not that badddddd. We have human beings living here too. If anything hope for the best prepare for the worse.
- Bring abroad chocolates and souvenirs. It will save you some unnecessary familiarity especially when that aunt or neighbour comes to checkup on you. You can easily chip it in and sneak out. You're Welcome.
Ehnehn so back to the gist....Oh boi! The heat was scorching, everywhere felt like an oven for the first few weeks. After a while I stopped complaining and I got use to everything (power outage, noise, pollution etc.)
Then I started prepping for law school. I will write about my Law school experience in another post.
Till then au revoir.
